The Conversation presents... Climate disaster: Are we going to make it?

In 2015 the world came together on the Paris agreement. Everyone involved agreed work needed to be done to cap temperature increases to 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels, with a stretch target on 1.5 degrees. Collectively, serious action was required over the long term, a potential solution to this being transition pathways.

Fast-forward to 2023: Temperatures reached record highs and there were large scale natural disasters globally. This has served as a stark reminder of why we need to act, and worryingly that we may have less time than previously thought. 

With the clock ticking, it’s important we give space for this vital subject. The Conversation event series doesn’t shy away from topics that make you question the status quo. This time round we want you to consider:

• Are we doing enough to combat climate change and is it fast enough? Are we on the right track and are we doing enough?
• Given the unprecedented level of natural disasters in 2023, will we make it through the coming years?

The spotlight isn’t on you, you will discuss this in small groups and share your thoughts in a rapid-fire feedback session.

Chatham House Rules keeps the event a safe space. And the discussion will be hosted and facilitated by a couple of guests speakers who have a bird's eye view on this topic – this means you will have a starting point for which to guide your informal group chats.

After the round robin, take full advantage of the opportunity to network and connect with your peers, where you can delve into the specifics.

The Conversation is a new event series to bring us all together to discuss key investment topics. This is an evening of fresh perspectives, engaging conversations, and new connections. It’s an opportunity for us to think on our feet and give spontaneous opinions in a judgement-free environment (Chatham House Rules goes without saying!).
