Edinburgh event: Fearing the next tweet - bottom up stock investing in a world run on a presidential whim

In today’s hyper-connected world, a single tweet can shake global markets. For bottom-up investors focused on company fundamentals, the challenge is clear: how do you stay grounded when political whims and viral headlines dominate the narrative?

This timely panel brings together a veteran equity fund manager, a global macro strategist, a financial journalist, and a leading academic to explore how investors can maintain conviction amid constant geopolitical noise. Together, they’ll unpack:

  • How political volatility is distorting stock-level decisions
  • What tools professionals are using to cut through the chaos
  • Whether “macro literacy” is now essential for even the most company-focused investors

Join us for a candid discussion on navigating uncertainty, staying focused on fundamentals, and investing with clarity in an unpredictable world.

Speakers

Colin Armstrong, CFA, Portfolio Manager and Partner, Kiltearn Partners

Colin Armstrong is a Portfolio Manager and Partner at Kiltearn Partners. Kiltearn is an investment partnership offering a single, actively managed, global value strategy. Kiltearn employs a disciplined value investment philosophy focused on rigorous fundamental analysis. Stock market values fluctuate to a greater degree than underlying business values. This creates opportunities for a long term,

bottom-up investor. Kiltearn’s primary advantage comes from its thoughtful and deliberate management of behavioural challenges, not necessarily any informational or analytical edge.

Prior to joining Kiltearn in 2014, Colin worked as a corporate lawyer for Dickson Minto for five years in the Listed Funds and M&A team where he focused on IPOs, M&A and private equity. Colin graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Law (Honours) Degree. Colin is a CFA Charterholder.
